Cookie Policy
Last updated: July 17, 2026
This Cookie Policy explains how The Liquid Network uses cookies and similar technologies across our public website (theliquidnetwork.ca) and our member Portal. It describes what these technologies are, which ones we use, why, and how you can control them.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website stores on your device. “Similar technologies” include things like your browser’s local storage. Both let a site remember information between pages or visits — for example, to keep you signed in or remember a display preference. Some are essential for a site to work; others are optional.
Cookies we use
We keep our use of cookies deliberately minimal. Our public website sets no cookies of its own. The cookies below are set by our member Portal, which requires sign-in.
Strictly necessary cookies (Portal)
Required to sign in and keep the Portal secure. These cannot be switched off without breaking core functionality.
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
__Secure-authjs.session-token.external | Keeps you signed in to the Portal by storing your encrypted session. | ~30 days (renews while you stay active) |
__Host-authjs.csrf-token.external | Security — protects sign-in and account actions against cross-site request forgery. | Until you close your browser |
__Secure-authjs.callback-url.external | Returns you to the right page after you sign in. | Until you close your browser |
Preference storage (Portal)
Remembers display choices. Not used for tracking; clearing it simply resets the preference to its default.
| Item | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
sidebar_state | Cookie | Remembers whether the Portal navigation sidebar is expanded or collapsed. | 7 days |
theme | Browser local storage | Remembers your light or dark display preference. | Until you clear it |
We do not use advertising or marketing cookies, cross-site trackers, or third-party tag managers anywhere.
Analytics
We use Vercel Web Analytics on our public website to understand aggregate traffic — such as page views, referring sites, general location (country/region/city), and device or browser type. This helps us improve the site.
This analytics is cookieless: it stores nothing on your device and does not track you across other websites. Visitors are counted using a temporary, non-identifying signal that is discarded within 24 hours, and the results are only ever available to us in aggregate. The data is processed on our behalf by Vercel, our website hosting provider. Because it uses no cookies, it is not listed in the tables above and there is nothing to accept or opt out of through cookie settings.
Why we don't show a cookie consent banner
Consent banners exist to ask permission before a site stores non-essential cookies on your device. We set only the strictly necessary Portal cookies described above, and our analytics is cookieless, so there is currently nothing that requires your consent. If that ever changes — for example, if we add a service that uses non-essential cookies — we will introduce a consent control at that time.
How to control cookies
- Strictly necessary Portal cookies can’t be disabled while using the Portal — blocking them will prevent you from signing in. They are only set once you use the Portal.
- Preference storage (
sidebar_state,theme) can be cleared any time through your browser; the Portal will simply return to its default appearance. - Your browser lets you view, block, and delete cookies and local storage for any site. Refer to your browser’s help pages for instructions. Note that blocking essential cookies will break Portal sign-in.
- Analytics requires no action — it is cookieless and non-identifying, so there is nothing stored on your device to remove.
